*Peter wakes up several times during the night. The bright sodium glare of the streetlights regularly tricking his brain into thinking it's dawn. Eventually, he gets up, grabs a spare blanket and hangs it on the highest window bar he can reach. It doesn't block all the light, but enough to let him sleep until morning.
The morning is not a happy one, Peter's mental stock taking: 'Owner: one. Practically incurable disease: one. Means to contact George: zero.' does not lend itself to cheer. Now that he's less furious, he can feel his magic roiling beneath D'Souza's binding, giving him a continuous need to figit or find some other outlet for the pent up force. He paces the room.*

Re: 8 a.m.
Date: 2012-09-03 07:47 am (UTC)*He looks at his watch. He really shouldn't be here - he's got to sort out the children and today is the first day sitting again and still hasn't managed to get through all his constituency correspondences...*
Is there anything else I can get you before I go to work?
Re: 8 a.m.
Date: 2012-09-03 07:52 am (UTC)- my blackberry.
- removal of D'Souza's binding
- a pair of curtains
- an extension to the two dozen or so square metres of floor which currently comprise the entirity of the area I am permitted to perambulate.
...that should do for now.
Re: 8 a.m.

That is all I can do for the moment. I cannot remove the Lord Speaker's charm.
The extension of the room we shall consider later.
Re: 8 a.m.
Date: 2012-09-03 08:12 am (UTC)Even double or triple the size, it will be the same four walls and I am tired of looking at them.

Date: 2012-09-03 02:06 pm (UTC)Hello, Lord Mandelson.
Does this afternoon find you in a more civil mood?
(no subject)
Date: 2012-09-03 02:22 pm (UTC)Baroness D'Souza.
...more contained than yesterday, certainly.
(no subject)
Date: 2012-09-03 02:27 pm (UTC)John should have spoken with you about this yesterday, instead of dropping it on you and then running off. Did you get a chance to talk this morning?
(no subject)
Date: 2012-09-03 02:30 pm (UTC)(no subject)
Date: 2012-09-03 02:55 pm (UTC)I'll kill him. All right, in that case I suppose I'd better speak with you.
We had to get the papers filed yesterday, and you were in no condition to make a decision. Someone had to take responsibility or DEFRA would have assumed custody. That is not, I think, an outcome you would wish for. But that doesn't mean you will be stuck with our stopgap measure indefinitely.
Do you want John to remain as your guardian, or should we initiate proceedings for a transfer of o- your guardianship? And if so, do you have someone to transfer it to?
(no subject)
Date: 2012-09-03 03:04 pm (UTC)*He shrugs*
At this point, a transfer seems to be equivalent to rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. I cannot see a transfer making any notable impact upon my living conditions- can you?

Date: 2012-09-03 03:44 pm (UTC)Therefore the pool of candidates is limited to you, John, Bryant, Cable, or BONE. The latter may be rejected out of hand, Cable is far too busy with BIS, Bryant would be intolerable, and you would simply keep me here as well.
There are no other magi I know well enough to trust with that responsibility.

From:6 p.m.
Date: 2012-09-03 08:11 pm (UTC)*Before he's even through the fireplace properly, John calls out his greeting to the man in the cell.*
Hello again Peter. How are you this ev-
*He is not expecting France to be on duty - wasn't Nigel meant to be in charge now? - and is slightly taken aback when he sees her.*
Frances, I didn't expect to see you here. How long have you been on d-... with Peter today?
Re: 6 p.m.
Date: 2012-09-03 08:22 pm (UTC)Lord Mandelson, on the other hand, has been very pleasant company. I think, given your disgraceful behaviour toward him over the past two days, that he's entitled to an apology and perhaps a decent meal.
*There's a strong hint that John may owe someone else an apology for last night as well.*
Re: 6 p.m.
Date: 2012-09-03 08:38 pm (UTC)...I'm terribly sorry, Frances, I shall have a word with them soon. That is simply not permissible.
*The rest of Frances' comments sink in*
Wh- "disgraceful behaviour"?! But I was merely attempting to-
"An apology"?! What on earth have I got to-
*John suddenly realises what that look on France's face means. It's the same look Sally gets that results in John spending the weekend on Julian Lewis's sofa with his favourite tie slashed to ribbons. Experience has taught John not to argue back under these circumstances.*
*John swallows his pride and turns to the cell.*
Peter. I am... I'm... I...
*He glances sideways at Frances. The Look is still firmly in place.*
I'm sorry. For-
*What was it Frances said he needed to apologise for? Something about- ah yes, that was it.*
-for my conduct towards you these past few days.
*He turns back to Frances. If he's apologising to Peter then he should probably apologise to Frances as well. And Dawn. And Nigel. And anyone I've spoken to in the last week, just to be safe, he thinks bitterly. He then decides that is a silly notion. An apology to Frances is probably due. After all, he did run out and leave her to deal with Peter's fury. That probably wasn't the kindest thing to do.*
And Frances, I apologise to you too - I've been far too quick to take advantage of your kindness. I'm am so very sorry.
Re: 6 p.m.
Date: 2012-09-03 08:50 pm (UTC)I assume apologising to all and sundry was not the sole purpose of your coming here?
Re: 6 p.m.
Date: 2012-09-03 08:52 pm (UTC)But I accept your apology, and I'm sure Lord Mandelson- *she glances over at Peter, whose face is still as carefully, politely blank as it has been ever since he asked her to restore his magic*- I am sure Lord Mandelson does as well.
*Or at least, he won't dare to protest otherwise too vehemently until he gets what he wants. Close enough.*
I think you should take him to the Tea Room for dinner. He won't transform again for another month, he's no threat with his magic bound, and he must be getting pretty sick of staring at these same four walls.
After dinner we can talk about releasing his magic.
*That should keep him from stabbing John through the throat with a fork and making a break for it.*
Re: 6 p.m.
Date: 2012-09-03 08:59 pm (UTC)The Team Room?
*John glances between the two of them*
I'm not entirely sure- I mean, with my position as Speaker, I'm not meant to frequent...
*John catches The Look rising once more.*
That is to say - of course I'll take Peter to dinner in the Tea Room. If he wants to, of course.
*He turns back to Peter*
I wouldn't want to impose on you if you had other...
...if you didn't wish me to.

Date: 2012-09-03 09:06 pm (UTC)If John is uncomfortable with the suggestion of the Tea Room, I would point out that he has a kitchen just down the hallway and that I have not seen Freddie for over a week.
Re: 6 p.m.
Date: 2012-09-03 09:11 pm (UTC)The Tea Room is perfectly suitable!
