*Peter hurls the bottle back through the fireplace. John will catch it. Probably. Or will have set up a buffer spell. Probably.*

Bercow,
it is exactly the same bottle as the one you suggested I visit in order to sample it as a ruse to get me to cook dinner for your children. If it is likely that they will go hungry, you could simply ask and drop the pretence of enjoying my company.
*John hears the bottle coming through the fireplace before he sees it. The glass bottle hurtles across the room and John only just manages to get to it before it hits the dark wood wall.*
What the he-
*John's phone buzzes. He puts the wine down on the table and then picks up the phone.*
*He reads Peter's message, groans and replies.*

Peter,
I was planning to get in a take-away for all of us, if you had wanted to join us. The wine was something I'd been saving - hopefully until the whole court case business had passed, but I thought that perhaps your triumphant return to parliament and your business deal called for a bit of a celebration.
*There's no one in the house to see his reaction, but Peter still sinks a little further into his chair, face flushing and feeling just a tiny bit foolish.*
*John reads the message. He's slightly dejected, but tries not to let it show - after all, if Peter's suggesting having wine another evening, he can't be too busy, surely? Maybe Peter's new job won't take over all of Peter's time and he and John can still...
John puts the wine back in the cupboard and replies.*

Bercow,
I have no interest in drinking alone, nor in being bribed into ensuring that my putative nephews and niece do not starve.

Peter,
It isn't a bribe.
It's a thank you gift.

I apologise for the misunderstanding.

Peter,
I managed to stop the bottle and it's contents ending up all over the floor if you would care for a drink?
